Believe It or Not...

During our wedding anniverssary vacation at Lake Powell one year(about 6 years ago today), I was awakened with the worse toothache. I tossed and turned til morning. No medicine could alleviate the pain. When morning came we headed to the middle of the main channel before it branched into little Cottonwood Canyon (this is where we registered all the kids for their High School courses if we happen to be there during their assigned turn) so I could call home to ask how Tina was doing.
Before I couls ask the question, Erica, our oldest daughter, urgently reported that she couldn't get Tina to stop scraping and digging at her gum, even when it was bleeding!
I told her to call for an appointment with the dentist and that we'll be right home, meanwhile to cut her fingernails.
I didn't go with them to the dentist so I could get our stuff packed up for another week at Lake Powell with the rest of the family.
My husband came home with Tina saying that our regular dentist wasn't there but that his alternate said there must be food stuck in her gum and that she was trying to get it out. When I asked about x-rays, he said that the previous x-ray didn't warrant another one at the moment. Meanwhile Tina was still frantically digging in her gum.
Although very uneasy and unhappy with his diagnosis I capitulated when my husband in exasperation said ' Look he is the dentist, not you, so he ought to know!"
So I backed off and tried to take care of it with alternative treatment, homeopathic drops, and pain medicine.
Meanwhile she had a flare of seizures, she was so heavily into statis seizures on her next 6 month checkup a few weeks later that we all thought that this would be a perfect time to do xrays, because she wouldn't fight so much. She didn't. But they also found an infection so close to her jaw bone that she was rushed into surgery immediately before the infection risked going systemic.
I learned a lesson that day.
When you have an understanding with the Lord whatever it may be, have the faith and courage to follow it through instead of fearing men.
